Integration of Power BI Visualization to Dynamics Portal Charts

This article is an asset for everyone who wants to add some 'colors' into complex reports (consisting of diagrams, graphs, and tables) or extend the standard functionality of Dynamics 365 Charts. In this piece of text, we will instruct you on how to integrate Power BI with Microsoft Portal.

When loads of information require quick and easy comprehension - data visualization is an advantage. Power BI, perhaps is the best solution to customize reports in your System. The integration of Power BI with Dynamics is quite plain, as both platforms are products of Microsoft; that is the integration is supported by Microsoft.

Some knowledge of Microsoft products administration and Global Administration rights in Office 365 is indispensable for the integration process. You should also consider pricing. It directly depends on the frequency of use of such reports, their data storage, and the number of Power BI developers.

If you are using Power BI reports and you want your portal users to see them as well, look through the instruction below.

First of all, you need to ensure that you have your active Workspace and the report in it.

Log in (use Global Admin credentials) to portal.azure. Create Power BI Embedded resource - choose the subscription option and cache size that you should pay for - create a security group.

Select Azure Active Directory - Groups - New group. Select Security (Group type), Group name - Portal Power BI Embedded service.

Select Members - enter your portal's application ID (you can find it on the Portal Details tab in PowerApps Portals admin center).

Enabling Power BI visualization

Go to Dynamics 365 Administration Center - Applications tab - Portal (for which you want to enable Power BI visualization) - Manage - Power BI integration - Enable Power BI visualization. Then Enable Power BI Embedded service (preview) and select your Power BI workspace.

Sign in to Power BI (use Global administrator account) - Select Settings - Admin portal - Tenant settings. Select Allow service principals to use Power BI APIs (under the Developer settings section). In the Specific security groups field, search for your Portal Power BI Embedded service group, and apply it.
